It is no surprise that water is an essential necessity to our lives, but why is it so important to have the recommended consumption of water daily? And how much water is needed to establish and maintain a good and healthy body? Of course there’s the good saying that everyone should be drinking a minimum of eight 8-oz glasses of water a day, and then there’s the more recent idea that drinking half your body weight in ounces of water a day is necessary. But, how much do your kids need if they are smaller in size? How much do you need? Do you need to drink more if you’re an athlete?

According to a research by the U.S. Institute of Medicine, the intake of water varies by body size and age. The amount of water for males begin to increase around age 9 due to the development of larger bodies, thus requiring more water! As for infants and children, they get most of their water from the foods they eat and since infants are breast-fed, they do not require as much water. Giving children water instead of juices reduces their craving for sweets and other junk food.

Water serves as a crucial part to our daily lives. Water not only provide nutrients to our whole body, but it also assists in detoxing the body and eliminating any unnecessary waste, which is why we cannot live without water for more than 3 to 5 days! The recommended amount of water per 8-ounce glass is shown below. The easiest way to consume water is buying a reusable water bottle around 33-ounces. That way, you can make less trips to the water fountain and consuming the required amount daily!
