Using Wellness Programs to Better Your Child’s Health

Getting your child to eat healthy can be tricky business. Children are notorious for their vegetable aversions and picky eating but is there any hope? Dr. Patricia and her team teaches good psychology on feeding children to give families hope for a healthier future.

Teaching a child healthy habits begins with the parents. A parent is a child’s role model. According to Ellen Sutter’s Division of Responsibility, the parent is in charge of what is being servedand when food is being served. Therefore children are in charge of if and how much  they will eat of what is provided. So avoid portion controlling or pressure to eat what is on their plate.

So healthy choices begin with a healthy parent. When your child sees you eating vegetables, they are much more likely to eat vegetables themselves. When your child sees you eating whole grains, they are more likely to choose a whole grain option next time. This doesn’t just benefit the child, it benefits the parent’s health, weight, and longevity as well!

Why Wellness Programs?

Many employers provide their employees with wellness programs at work. These are programs that everyone should take advantage of! Some programs may provide nutrition classes, workout opportunities, or friendly health competitions amongst employees. Participating in these programs have been shown to decrease employee risk of chronic diseases and increase overall health. The healthy habits that are created can then be taken home.

So become that healthy eating role model today that your child needs. Take advantage of the wellness programs around you and begin to see your family become healthier by the day.

And remember….

Healthy Parents = Healthy Kids
