Yet another exciting summer Olympics is on the way! The 2016 Rio summer Olympics is expected to host a large variety of sports performed by some of the best athletes around the world.
While the Olympics aren’t always close to home, it’s an exciting and fun way to get your children and neighborhood children active. Start off by making teams to represent the country they want and begin with the first game of choice. Set up a relay race track and use water balloons as the torch that is passes off from runner to runner. The first team to make it to the finish line with the water balloon still intact wins.
The next game will require a pool, instead of using a diving board, have a cannonball contest, whoever makes the largest splash-wins! For this sport, purchase an inexpensive small badminton set and play on a grass area where you can lay down a jump rope spiting the grass into two fields. Set up the winning point score to what you prefer and may the best team win.
One last summer Olympic sport idea is to gather the children and their bicycles and have a cycling race. Make them line up in a straight line on the street, while parents are on both ends of the street to watch for cars, and send them off and the person who crosses the finish line first wins.
At the end of the games, don’t forget to award the gold, silver, and bronze winners with cool homemade medals or crowns!
